Actor Privacy Policy?

At a glance

The community member is a prospective webscrape developer who is wondering about the privacy policy regarding the code they submit as an Apify actor, as the Apify privacy policy on the website seems to be more directed towards users than developers. In the comments, another community member responds that Apify needs read access to the source code of actors, but the developers of the actors are still the owners of their code and can make decisions about its availability on the platform. The community member also states that Apify does not use any parts of the developers' code or provide it to third parties.

Hi, I'm a prospective webscrape dev. I'm wondering about the privacy policy regarding the code I submit as an Apify actor, since the Apify privacy policy I saw on the webpage seemed to be directed more towards users than developers.

Hello ,

Thank you for your feedback. Indeed, this is not very well mentioned on the website and platform. We are going to improve it soon.

When you want to run an Actor on Apify platform, the platform needs read access to the source code. That's because all the actors have to be built on it. The developers of the Actors are still owners of their code and can make decisions about their actors being available on the platform. Speaking about code Apify don't use any parts of the developers' code and does not provide it to the 3rd parties in any way.
